Potawatomi Bingo Casino Joins ASQ’s SRO Movement

Potawatomi to Be Featured in Upcoming Social Responsibility Monograph; Organizations Encouraged to Submit Success Stories

Milwaukee, Wis., August 31, 2009 – ASQ (American Society for Quality) has announced that Potawatomi Bingo Casino, Milwaukee, Wis., has joined its Socially Responsible Organization (SRO) movement. By joining The SRO, Potawatomi Bingo Casino will have access to ASQ resources and will be a participant in an International Think Tank on social responsibility, November 15–17, 2009, at Discovery World in Milwaukee, Wis. Organizations interested in joining The SRO can contact Michelle Mason, ASQ managing director, at mmason@asq.org.

The SRO initiative looks to help the world understand the value of social responsibility and the role quality has in achieving results. By positively contributing to operations that are social, cultural, economic, and environmental, Potawatomi Bingo Casino has demonstrated that socially responsible organizations can use quality practices to make a difference.

"Our partnership with ASQ will help further our efforts to build on our tradition of responsibility," stated Mike Goodrich, general manager of Potawatomi Bingo Casino. "ASQ provides a unique opportunity for us to share our efforts and learn from others."

Pathways to Social Responsibility
Potawatomi Bingo Casino’s socially responsible efforts will be featured in the second issue of a collection of stories titled Pathways to Social Responsibility: Successful Practices for Sustaining the Future. Featured stories will profile companies and organizations that have embarked on their own paths toward social responsibility and discuss the business successes that have resulted in their efforts. ASQ is currently seeking stories from other organizations to feature in the upcoming Pathways issue. Organizations are asked to submit their socially responsible stories by visiting http://thesro.org/share-your-sro-story/.

The first Pathways to Social Responsibility issue included the following Fortune 500 corporations:

  • Northwestern Mutual — Located in Milwaukee, Wis., Northwestern Mutual is the nation’s largest direct provider of individual life insurance. Northwestern Mutual targets more than $1.5 billion for socially responsive investments, which can include funding housing for low-income residents, financing alternative energy sources or investment in green buildings.
  • MillerCoors — Corporate responsibility and sustainable development are recognized as key to sustainable growth and superior financial performance for brewer MillerCoors, headquartered in Chicago, Ill. This is evident in its pursuit of many zero-waste operations. For example: It recycles or reuses more than 98 percent of its packaging and brewing waste.
  • Johnson Controls — As a global leader in automotive experience, building efficiency and power solutions, Johnson Controls, located in Milwaukee, Wis., understands that sustainability is good for the planet and for business. • Intel — Intel is the world leader in silicon innovation. Headquartered in Santa Clara, Calif., Intel collects information on its carbon footprint and green-purchasing practices, which is shared with companies that use Intel as a supplier.
