Question of the Week
What is the Sarbanes-Oxley law, and what resources does ASQ have about it?
A: The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 is also known as the Public Company Accounting Reform and Investor Protection Act of 2002 – or more commonly by the acronym SOX.
This federal law was enacted in July 2002 in response to several high-profile corporate and accounting scandals, notably those involving Enron, Tyco International, and WorldCom. The aim of the law is to protect shareholders and the general public from accounting errors and fraudulent business practices by improving the accuracy and reliability of corporate disclosure.
