2007 Inspection Division Scholarship Winner

Mrugesh Patel The Inspection Division Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce that it awarded its 2007 Scholarship to Mrugesh Patel of Piscataway, NJ. Mr. Patel graduated from Piscataway High School in June 2007 and will now pursue an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan.

The Inspection Division Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce that it awarded its 2007 Scholarship to Mrugesh Patel of Piscataway, NJ. Mr. Patel graduated from Piscataway High School in June 2007 and will now pursue an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan.

In fulfillment of scholarship requirements, Mr. Patel submitted an essay in excess of 750 words entitled “Use of PDCA to Score Higher in New SAT” which explained how he used the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle to improve the process he used to study for the SAT. His essay also described each step of the PDCA cycle and listed the benefits of the process he used.

Mr. Patel was an active member in his school’s Key Club, Science League and tennis team. He was Vice President of both Math League and Ping Pong Club. In his spare time he likes to watch movies, hang around with friends and family, play basketball, do anything and everything on the computer and enjoys photography.

The Inspection Division scholarship was first issued in 1999 in order to assist recipients in any manner to defray the costs associated with college expenses. Mr. Patel is the ninth recipient of this award.

2006 Inspection Division Scholarship Winner

Jacqueline SpichigerJacqueline M. Spichiger

The Inspection Division Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce that it awarded its 2006 Scholarship to Jacqueline M. Spichiger, of Granville, OH.  Ms. Spichiger graduated from Granville High School in June 2006 and is now pursuing undergraduate degrees in education and journalism at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.

In fulfillment of scholarship requirements, Ms. Spichiger submitted an essay in excess of 750 words entitled “Quality in Education” which explained the importance of an education, the stakeholders involved and processes and factors relative to educational systems.  Her essay included and explanation and analysis of both the No Child Left Behind Act and the Baldridge criteria as it pertains to education.

Ms. Spichiger was active in Girl Scouts, the high school yearbook staff and enjoyed participating on the swim team and in youth softball.  She was gainfully employed during most of her high school career.  In her spare time she writes poetry and short stories, enjoys movies, hanging with friends and “surfing the net”.  

The Inspection Division scholarship was first issued in 1999 in order to assist recipients in any manner to defray the costs associated with college expenses.  Ms. Spichiger is the eighth recipient of this award.

On behalf of the Inspection Division Executive Committee, the Scholarship Committee wishes Jackie Spichiger the best of success in her academic future. 


2005 Inspection Division Scholarship Winner

Edrin W. Rouse

The Inspection Division Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce that it awarded its 2005 Scholarship to Edrin W. Rouse, of Greensboro, NC. Mr. Rouse is pursuing his Ph.D. in Business Administration with a specialization in Management of Engineering Technology from Northcentral University.

In fulfillment of scholarship requirements, Mr. Rouse submitted an essay in excess of 750 words entitled “The Importance of Service Quality Today” which define and explained Service Quality and explained its relationship to Customer Satisfaction.

Mr. Rouse has worked in the Quality field for over 13 years and has diverse experience in Quality Engineering and Management, Human Resources, Operations Consulting/Auditing and Six Sigma in various manufacturing and service organizations. He is also an ASQ Certified Quality Manager, CQE, and NAIT Certified Sr. Industrial Technologist. He also received his Six Sigma Black Belt Certification from GE Capital.
Mr. Rouse is currently employed with Bank of America in Charlotte, NC, as the VP - Sr. Process Design Engineer: Technology & Operations responsible for driving Six Sigma, operational and merger/transition improvement activities.

On a personal note, Mr. Rouse enjoys working with youth. He is currently Assistant Director of the Adventurer Club, a co-ed youth scout group at his church, and he coaches youth basketball and football with his church and the local Parks and Recreation division.

The $500 Inspection Division scholarship was first issued in 1999 in order to assist recipients in any manner to defray the costs associated with college expenses. Edrin Rouse is the seventh recipient of this award.

On behalf of the Inspection Division Executive Committee, the Scholarship Committee wishes Edrin Rouse the best of success in his academic future.

Nick Price

Nick will begin attending Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA, this fall in pursuit of a pre-med degree. He lives in Lewistown, PA, has been named to the Indian Valley High School's Distinguished Honor Roll since his freshman year, and has an outstanding academic record in his school's Honors program. He is a member of several sport teams, numerous school clubs including the National Honor Society, and is active in his community with Boy Scouts (he is an Eagle Scout), his church's youth group, Big Brother, and serves as an EMT.

$500 Scholarship

Nishant Shah

Nishant is a sophomore at Boston University who is pursuing a pre-med degree. Nishant lives in Brookfield, CT, and enjoys playing tennis, ultimate Frisbee, basketball, and is a black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do. Additionally, he is a member of the Boston Red Cross Chapter of the Disaster Action Team, and has enjoyed volunteering for such community service organizations as INTERACT, JOURNEY, and CRIS Radio (a radio station for the blind and print handicapped).

Steven Bacon

Steven is the Quality Manager for Tessy Plastics LLC, a custom injection molding manufacturer. He lives in Lynchburg, VA, and is seeking his Bachelor of Science in Quality Control from Kennedy-Western University. Steven is an Inspection Division member, a certified Quality Inspector, a Certified Quality Technician and a Certified Quality Engineer. He enjoys outdoor activities such as SCUBA diving, water skiing, bike touring and camping. The essay that he submitted for the scholarship, Tread Separation and QS-9000 was recently published in the Inspection Division newsletter.

Lisa Starr

Lisa is the Quality Manager for Ferguson Production, a custom plastic injection molding manufacturer. She lives in McPherson, KS, and is seeking her degree in Business Administration at Tabor College. Lisa is an Inspection Division member, an Honorary Member of SVP Core Technology Team from Abbott Laboratories and has received a Certificate of Excellence for High Performance Work Teams from Abbott Laboratories. Lisa has been married for over 20 years and has three sons.

Richard E. Smith

The scholarship for 2000 was awarded to Richard E. Smith of Sacramento.  Richard's fine academic performance and outstanding personal attributes made him an ideal candidate for this award.  Richard is a Quality technician at Wunderbar, in Vacaville, CA (www.wunderbar.com) and is a part-time student at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale's satellite campus at the Travis Air Force Base in California.  Congratulations to Richard for this well deserved recognition.

Liz Forkapa

The inaugural Inspection Division Scholarship was awarded to Liz Forkapa, a sophomore Industrial Engineering student at Cleveland State.  Liz's fine academic performance and outstanding leadership and self initiative as demonstrated through her extra circular activities made her an excellence candidate for this award.
