Information Integrity Interest Group Launches with Approval of the ASQ Board of Directors

We have approval….

Thank you very much for your support with signing up for the Information Integrity Interest Group [I*I IG]. We are very enthusiastic about the positive response this interest group effort has received. To date, more than 300 people have signed up to become a part of the new I*I IG, including past ASQ presidents, the current ASQ Division Chairs, and over 100 international members. Because of your continued support, we are pleased to inform you that the American Society for Quality [ASQ] officially approved the formation of this interest group. As we engage in our Interest Group activities during 2004, we look forward to establishing a strong presence within the ASQ community.

We have a purpose…

Quality principles have yet to be fully aligned with the Information Age that we now live in. I*I IG plans to evolve an Information Integrity Framework that has a direct correlation to existing quality principles. Creating such a framework will require the insight of participants from various ASQ divisions, industry professionals, educators, and government representatives. Wherever possible, we hope to expand and/or complement existing Quality-related standards which are already in place.

The I*I IG is charged with applying Information Integrity concepts within existing quality principles.

As an official entity within ASQ, the I*I IG will receive initial funding to engage in several activities which include event participation, paper submissions and presentations, research work, and an interactive website to foster worldwide collaboration. This newly formed interest group fully intends to become an established division of the ASQ within the next two years.

Proposed activities for the I*I IG

• Keep Interest Group Population updated and informed
• Publish Quarterly newsletter
• Publish research papers and report on I*I research initiatives for various Quality
• concepts
• Launch and maintain web site

• Foster ongoing dialogue on various I*I related issues
• Create online discussion forums for electronic community
• Participate in various ASQ functions
• Collaborate with other ASQ interest groups/ divisions on current issues
• Create Subject Matter Liaisons to interface with subject matter experts from other
• industries, organizations, etc.

• Apply I*I concepts to existing Quality principles and relating frameworks
• Revisit “Lean Concepts” in the context of I*I using Quality principles
• Expand Baldrige Quality Award framework to include I*I concepts
• Revisit TQM framework with I*I concepts
• Update “Balance Scorecard Approach” from Quality framework using I*I concepts
• Streamline linkage between data quality, I*I, and TQM
• Develop a strategic plan by Mar 01, 2004 to include an implementation timeline along with Research, Design, Test, and Roll-out Phases. The goal of the Research Phase would be tofurther delineate the distinctive roles between I*I IG and other ASQ divisions
