New scholarship created — Join the new committee to help judge potential awardees
The Healthcare Division of the American Society for Quality just received approval to create a new scholarship, named in honor of Florence Nightingale, to be awarded each year starting in 2009. Each scholarship winner will be announced at a national ASQ annual conference event. Scholarship award monies may be used at the discretion of winners to fund any aspect of their educational program (including, but not limited to, tuition fees, textbook purchases, participation costs of volunteer field work for which academic credit is granted). This competition will be open to any student enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution who is nominated by a member of the Healthcare Division and pursuing studies related to healthcare quality. Applications will be judged on the basis of personal attributes and a formal essay. The Healthcare Division is assembling a committee to oversee this new scholarship. Any division member interested in joining David Birnbaum and John Harrison on this committee is asked to reply now via e-mail to david.birnbaum@ubc.ca. Information will be posted here on the division's Web site for all members as soon as possible detailing the scholarship application process and related deadline dates — watch for it in 2008 so that you will then be able to inform your local ASQ section, post-secondary schools, and deserving students for our 2009 competition!
