Fernando Padro to Speak at Mexico Event

ASQ recently opened a national service center in Mexico, and ASQ Mexico is hosting an Inauguration Congress from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the La Hacienda de los Morales in Mexico City. The program will be a one-day event with the theme “Quality and Education.”

Speakers at the event include:

  • Fernando Padro, ASQ Education Division Higher Education Advisory Committee chair and associate professor at Cambridge College in Education Leadership.
  • Roberto Saco, former ASQ president and current chair of the board.

This standard, ANSI/ISO/ASQ Q9001-2008 specifies requirements for a quality management system in which an organization:

  • Needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that meets customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

All requirements of ISO 9001:2008 are generic and are intended to be applicable to all organizations, regardless of type, size and product provided.

Attend NQEC and Follow the Higher Education Track

This year’s National Quality Education Conference (NQEC), set for Oct. 25–27 in Jacksonville, FL, will feature a track on higher education titled, “Developing New Leaders and Teachers.”

The track’s description reads: How do we develop the teachers and leaders of tomorrow who will continue the legacy of continuous improvement? What is the best way to reach university students preparing to work professionally in our schools if they aren’t currently being taught continuous improvement philosophies? Sessions will examine training of new staff (whether experienced or newly graduated) in the teaching corps and in leadership.

Baldrige Course for Higher Education

A Baldrige Self-Assessment for Higher Education is set for March 1-2 in Las Vegas. The course is targeted primarily at post-secondary institutions. The course objectives include:

  • Identifying the benefits of applying the Baldrige criteria.
  • Applying the Baldrige values, principles and criteria.
  • Conducting a Baldrige-based self-assessment.
  • Recognizing the value of creating a culture of continuous improvement within educational institutions.

Course activities include large and small group discussions, interactive exercises and completion of a sample self-assessment.
