SEC extends Sarbanes-Oxley deadline
Legal threat eased on UK companies for a year.

By Maxwell Cooter, Techworld

The US Securities and Exchange Commission has withdrawn the threat of legal sanctions against UK companies who fail to meet Sarbanes Oxley compliance - for the time-being.

The imminent implementation of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act led to the possibility of fines or even prison for company directors of foreign companies who were quoted on US markets. However, under pressure from lobbying organisations, such as the Confederation of British Industry, the SEC has announced that the deadline for compliance to Section 404 of the act had been extended from 15 July 2005 to 15 July 2006 - for foreign companies only.

The SEC has extended the time for compliance to SOX to July 15, 2006 for small/medium sized companies <$75M capitalization and for Foreign Companies trading in the US.

I'm sort of new to the subject of Sarbanes-Oxley and want to find a "list" of what companies must do to be in compliance. Is there a list somewhere, or is it more complicated than that? Thanks for any referrals or references that you have.

Dave Crowell,
SOX is complicated, impacting the US in a short time, similar to the impact of ISO 9001 over decades.
There are many lists on what needs to be done for compliance to SOX. Much information is on the ASQ SOX Network site http://www.asq.org/communities/sarbanes-oxley/index.html
Assuming you work in a quality position for a company that needs compliance to SOX, your Finance and Accounting (F&A) departments have already been educated on SOX and have done their gap analysis and have their "to do" list. You should be a position to help them to more effect and to reduce costs of compliance.
The ASQ workshop "How to Use ISO 9001 to Reduce the Risk from Sarbanes-Oxley" can help in your education and provide guidance on how to work with both the F&A and the internal financial auditors.

I am looking for help; I am an Internal Control Analyst for an Oil and Gas company. I take all the SOX accounting information classes that are offered. But, this area does not offer much in the way of putting information together. I have a degree in quality and thought I might get better training for assembling and design here. I missed the 2nd SOX conference, but would like to attend the next one. I can not locate information about it. Can you help or make suggestions on where to get SOX training though ASQ.

Thank you
