12 Requirements for Six Sigma Success

Six Sigma Forum Magazine vol. 2 issue 1 - November 2002

Abstract:The success that a number of large, well-known corporations have experienced with Six Sigma methodology has encouraged others to follow suit. Many, however, imitate the leaders without regard to adapting and designing a Six Sigma program to fit their own specific needs. As with earlier quality trends, hoped for results will fail to materialize because of faulty application and expectations. Research at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm identified 12 requirements that, if systematically developed, can greatly improve a company's Six Sigma success. A sidebar article lists the 12 requirements.

Keywords: Program development - Organizational design - Upper management - Customer requirements - Customer focus - Commitment - Quality Improvement System (QIS) - Strategic planning - Six Sigma
