Quality Management and Sustainability

Abstract:In this article, an attempt is made to explain the relationship between sustainability and quality management. The authors contend that quality management is an important part of the concept of sustainability; but that sustainability is a broader concept encompassing other perspectives such as ethics, quantifying externalities, and systems integrity and resilience. This will be demonstrated in a model of sustainability that includes 14 principles of sustainability. Some of these principles include aspects of quality management while others show the broader perspective of sustainability. Deming's 14 points are also studied, and are compared and contrasted with the principles of sustainability.
