Director, Field Assistance (Area 4 – Phoenix), Wage and Investment Division

As an executive leader in the Wage and Investment Division, Betsy is the face of the IRS for millions of Americans. Field assistance provides face-to-face customer service in 78 offices across 13 states from the Southwest to the Canadian border. Her previous executive positions include overseeing nationwide paper and electronic tax return processing for individual and business filers, toll-free telephone operations and account and tax-related correspondence programs.

Betsy was instrumental in a number of key initiatives with national impact — including the establishment of a Joint Operations Center to manage the IRS contact center environment, the rapid mobilization of over 4,000 employees to provide telephone assistance to hurricane victims along the Gulf Coast and the implementation of an embedded quality system that significantly changed performance improvement processes within the IRS. Betsy has been recognized for her many leadership contributions and is especially proud of receiving the Wage and Investment Commissioner’s Award, her selection as a 2006 Service to America Medal finalist and recently being honored as a Presidential Meritorious Executive by President Bush.

Betsy is a career IRS employee with over 30 years of customer service experience. She began her career in Richmond, and has since worked in Oakland, Dallas, Nashville and Atlanta. Betsy currently resides Phoenix. She received her Bachelor of Science degree with an Education major from West Virginia University.
