About the Probabilistic Technology Community

Mission and Vision:

  1. Promote the use and further development of probabilistic technology
  2. Provide education in probabilistic technology
  3. Develop standards for implementation of probabilistic technology
  4. Provide liaison with other organizations regarding probabilistic technology

1. Promote the use and further development of probabilistic technology.
Probabilistic technology has been around for decades, but only in the past 10 or 15 years have the mathematics and the computer power been sufficient such that general use of probabilistic technology has become practical. Whereas certain industries such as nuclear power and off-shore oil wells needed probabilistic technology to insure safety, other industries were reluctant to spend or dedicate the resources needed to implement it. Now the time has come for all industries, businesses, universities, and government agencies to take advantage of probabilistic technology. The PTC will help light the way.

2. Provide education in probabilistic technology.
As expected, academia has been more proactive in using probabilistic technology than those outside the universities. However, millions of individuals have graduated from our universities with no exposure to probabilistic technology at all. Thus, another goal of the PTLC is to promote development of educational materials and educational forums where the professionals already in the work force can learn the skills needed to use probabilistic technology.

3. Develop standards for implementation of probabilistic technology.
The PTC is working with ASQ to develop nationally and internationally accepted standards for the use of probabilistic technology. This will include standards for validation and verification of models used in probabilistic analysis.

4. Provide liaison with other organizations regarding probabilistic technology.
The PTC is establishing contacts with numerous professional societies, universities, government agencies, companies, and Congress in order to promote probabilistic technology. The PTC supports legislation that supports the PTC mission.
