Two Hospitals Prescribe Performance Excellence
by Kristen Johnson
Baptist Hospital Inc. (BHI), a subsidiary of
Baptist Health Care (BHC), consists of two
hospitals: BH, a 492-bed tertiary care and
referral facility in Pensacola, FL, and Gulf Breeze
Hospital (GBH), a 60-bed medical and surgical hospital
in Gulf Breeze, FL. BHI also includes Baptist
Medical Park (BMP), an ambulatory care complex
in Pensacola. BHI has 2,270 employees, who
account for 42% of the BHC staff.
Saint Luke's Hospital (SLH) is a 582-bed teaching
and referral organization in Kansas City, MO. It
is the tertiary care referral center of the Saint
Luke's Health System (SLHS), which employs
6,333 individuals. Approximately 51% of these
employees are located at SLH.
Sure, they sound like two ordinary hospitals
from different parts of the country. But each committed
itself to excellence and became a recipient
of the 2003 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality
Award in the healthcare category.
