Baldrige Assessment Strengthens Competitive Position for Hartford Hospital

Using the Malcolm Baldrige self-assessment criteria, a large urban teaching hospital met challenges to improve overall performance, enhance its image, and gain competitive advantage in the region. Organization-wide performance improvement initiatives were defined and prioritized, and the strategic plan, business and quality plans, and patient population-based goals were aligned. Market share improvement, listing as a "Top 100" hospital, and a successful complaint management program were among the outcomes.
