Dr. Anita Borg
So you are not an inventor?  Don't believe it! If future technology is to be great for people as well as for companies, if the inherent democracy and equality of the internet is to be realized, we need to tap the genius that exists beyond the world's researchers and PhDs!The Institute for Women and Technology has been bringing technical and non-technical women together to brainstorm about the future - 8 year olds and 80 year olds are brilliant inventors!  Find out how we've done it and what we've invented.

Bio:
Dr. Anita Borg is President and Founding Director of the Institute for Women and Technology(IWT) in Palo Alto California. She is also a member of the research staff in the office of the chief technologist at Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center and is on full-time loan to IWT. The Institute is an experimental  research and advanced development organization focused on increasing the impact of women on technology and increasing the positive impact of technology on the world's women.

In July, 1999, Dr. Borg was appointed by President Clinton to the congressionally mandated Commission on the  Advancement of Women and Minorities in Science, Engineering, and Technology. She is a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Computing Research Association (CRA). Dr. Borg served as a member of the National Academy of Engineering's Steering Committee for a Celebration of Women in Engineering and the Committees on Women of both the CRA and the ACM. She has published many scholarly articles and has served on program committees for conferences in the computer architecture and operating systems communities. She is the founder of the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (1994, 1997).

Dr. Borg recently received the 1999 Melitta Bentz Women of Innovation and Invention Award. She was also recognized in 1999 as one of Americas 100 Most Important Women by Ladies Home Journal. In 1998, Dr. Borg was inducted in to the Women in Technology International (WITI) Hall of Fame. In 1995, Dr. Borg received a Pioneer Award from the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the Augusta  Ada  Lovelace Award from the Association of Women in Computing for her work on behalf of women in the computing field.

Dr. Borg received her Ph.D. from New York University. She worked for four years on a fault tolerant operating system for Auragen Systems Corp (NJ) and then with Nixdorf Computer (Germany). She spent 1986-97 at Digital Equipment Corporation. At Digital's Western Research Laboratory, she developed and patented a performance analysis method for high-speed memory systems. At its Network Systems Laboratory, she developed MECCA, a system for communicating in virtual communities.

While the revolution in information technology is bringing us all  closer together, globalization is challenging our language skills,  and a new generation is reshaping our business strategy. Is business changing or managing changing? Will the success of manufacturing industry depend upon their embracing IT? Will individuals target employers or will organizations target employees? The world we work in is developing  at an exponential rate - a rate which shows no sign of abating in the 21st century. It is only natural that we have a curiosity about how workplace institutions and management practices will change in these changing times.

Quality Auditors play a major role in an organization - in its management as well as to its work-force top to bottom. This presentation will reveal what quality auditors must do in the 21st century to effectively tackle management and organization of the 21st century.

Bio:
Subir Chowdhury is Executive Vice President at the American Supplier Institute - an international consulting firm. Prior to his present position, he served as a quality management consultant at General Motors Corporation. Mr.Chowdhury is also an award-winning author. His first book on quality management,  QS-9000 Pioneers, received acclaim from world-class quality experts. The book was declared the most highly endorsed book on quality management and is a helpful tool to the auto- motive industry worldwide in implementing an effective quality system. Most recently he co-authored a book with Dr.G. Taguchi and Mr. Shin Taguchi on Robust Engineering.

Mr. Chowdhury's major expertise is in the field of management and leadership. His most recent book "Management21C:Someday We'll All Manage This Way" is the lead business title of Financial Times. This most valuable work is a major contribution in the field of management of the 21st century and praised by best business thinkers and CEOs of the world. Mr. Chowdhury is a FELLOW of the prestigious Royal Statistical Society, London. Presently, he is the Chairman of the American Society for Quality - Automotive Division. He is also a FELLOW of the Quality Society of Australia. Mr. Chowdhury was also the Editor- in-Chief of Automotive Excellence - the world's leading magazine on issues related to quality in the automotive industry. He served as Chief Editor of several international conference proceedings. Mr. Chowdhury has received numerous international awards for his leadership in quality management and major contributions to the automotive industry. He was honored by the prestigious Automotive Hall of Fame. The Society of Automotive Engineers awarded him its most prestigious recognition, the Henry Ford II Distinguished Award for Excellence. He also received the honorable U.S. Congressional Recognition from the United States Congress and Certificate of Commendation from the Honorable Governor of the State of Michigan.

Mr. Chowdhury was featured on the famed Voice of America (VOA) in Washington DC which reaches 120 million people in more than 50 countries worldwide. For his first book, he was given special prominence in many prestigious newspapers and magazines such as: Fortune, U.S. Auto Scene, India Abroad, Automotive News, Ward's AutoWorld, Quality Digest, Export Today, Automotive Excellence, Quality Observer, The Economic Times, The Statesman, and The Telegraph.  

Dr. Moira Gunn
The 90's brought worldwide networks of computers and a plethora of off-the-shelf software. With data flowing in every direction and software being developed all over the world, auditing is more challenging than ever. Dr. Gunn talks about the ever-increasing demands on system architecture and the best strategies to guarantee performance.

Labeled the "Grand Dame of Tech Talk"by Wired Magazine, Dr. Moira Gunn is the Host of Tech Nation ...Americans & Technology, a weekly interview program which has aired nationallyonpublic radiostationsandArmed Forces Radio International since 1993. Through in-depth interviews, Dr.Gunnspeaks with the innovators who drive technology today, as well as the everyday people who must cope with this new wired world.

A former NASA scientist and engineer, Dr. Gunn is no stranger to technology.She has served as a member of the Awards Selection Committee for the Space Technology Hall of Fame,and currently is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Tech Museum of Innovation.She holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical EngineeringfromPurdue Universityanda Masters degree in Computer Science, in addition to being awarded a technical patent inHuman Nutrition. Dr.Gunn maintains a technical consulting business, as well as an Adjunct Professorship at the University of San Francisco.
